A New Day Is Dawning: New Moon in Leo

Happy New Moon in Leo!

Leo season is always such a beautiful time especially because it’s the height of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere. This year this season might be a little more challenging with Saturn still in Aquarius (forming an opposition to Leo) and both Mars and Uranus in Taurus (forming a square to Leo). Oppositions are really emphasizing the need for balance and finding a way to compromise. Squares are external pressures that resemble the process of creating a pearl. In response to irritants, the mollusks releases secretions to protect themselves and the layers that form over time create beautiful pearls. Square aspects help us form protective layers from the challenges we endure. The awareness we gain will help us in the long run.

Below, I’m sharing the energy of this New Moon as well as the Moon Journal Prompts to help you harness this powerful energy. New Moons are about new beginnings, getting a fresh start, and setting intentions for the next two weeks.

New moon energy

This New Moon is full of opportunity if we stay open to the possibilities. There’s some turbulence on the way to better and more fruitful opportunities, but if you keep your faith intact, it will all make sense soon enough. It can’t always be sunny. Imagine if all we had was sunshine, we’d have wilted flowers and soon, a drought. We gotta have some rain storms with a downpour.

The closest aspect at the time of this lunation is the Moon meeting up with Jupiter in a harmonious trine, followed by a square to Mars, then conjoining with Mercury and squaring the Uranus and North Node conjunction. Uranus is a wild card so expect the unexpected. There’s ways to prepare, of course. The best advice is to proceed with caution and follow your intuition. Also, try not to focus on what’s “good or bad” and allow things to be just what are.

When I come up with the questions for the Moon Journal Prompts, I take into account the energy of the planets as well as the Collective energy via Oracle cards or Tarot cards.

For this lunation, I decided to use my Raider-Waite Tarot deck along with the Wild Unknown Archetypes deck by Kim Krans.

For the Tarot spread, I received: Two of Pentacles (coins) // Queen of Wands RX // The Sun // The Tower RX. At the back of the deck (explaining the overall energy), was the Ten of Swords.

Two of Pentacles: balance, resource management, juggling tasks

Queen of Wands (reversed): reevaluate self-esteem, reflect on your fortitude, self-empowerment/improvement

The Sun: Vitality, inner child, radiance, exuberant, playfulness, optimism

The Tower (reversed): rebuild, nowhere to go but up, clarity, personal upheaval & transformation

Overall energy—Ten of Swords: mental exhaustion, surrender, crisis, deep wounding

That Ten of Swords and the Tower energy absolutely translates the exact Mercury in Leo square to Uranus and North Node in Taurus as well as Mars close by also in Taurus. It’s three against one— external situations causing stress and mental tension. Be careful with your blood pressure since Leo rules the heart and Mercury rules over the lungs. There’s a huge mental shift that’s needing to happen for you to uplevel, but there’s hesitancy. That hesitancy could be from being too scared to take a risk or thinking it’s more comfortable for things to stay as they are. It’s time to surrender to what is unfolding.

Plus, Mercury is still making a close enough trine to Chiron, the asteroid known as the Wounded Healer archetype. This can lead to a cathartic release. As painful as it might be mentally, you might need it physically and emotionally. Also, keep an eye on your mental state. Use the tools in your toolkit as much as needed. If you’re in therapy, make sure your appointments are top priority.

With the Two of Pentacles and Queen of Wands reversed, it’s going to be imperative that you take stock of your energy reserves. Don’t over promise and don’t overexert yourself. Do what’s necessary to tend to your energy levels especially if you are feeling burnt out. Do what’s needed, nothing more, nothing less— just enough to reach the desired outcome.

The Sun and The Tower reversed are two Major Arcanas which means these energies are out of your control. The Sun and The Tower reversed together is the energy of the Moon and Mercury in Leo opposing Saturn Retrograde in Aquarius on July 29th/30th. Mentally & emotionally, we’ll be challenged and need to find balance with any external limitations or restrictions we have to deal with. Plus, on July 31st/August 1st, Mars, Uranus and the North Node will conjunct each other at 18 degrees Taurus— further exasperating The Tower card. Taurus is a fixed Earth sign that doesn’t like to budge and doesn’t like change. So with Mars and Uranus together here it’s very action-oriented and dynamic. It makes me think of tectonic plates shifting since Uranus represents sudden shifts and upheaval. Mars is physical action and willpower. It can feel intense and New Moons are the energy of new beginnings. Sometimes, what’s new doesn’t always look appealing at first because it’s chaotic.

Let’s think about it like birthing a baby into the world— the journey of being born is not easy or straightforward. It’s actually a bit chaotic. The expansion and constricting of muscles in the uterus work on creating space for the baby’s head to crown and be pushed out. It’s painful for both mom and baby. The baby’s head is being squeezed out into a very bright and cold space that is foreign. The baby is crying until it finally meets its mom or caregiver and is warm again. It hears a familiar voice that it only heard in a muffle before. The baby is soothed with a pacifier and is able to rest with its parents once it is cleaned up. A pacifier is a tool for self-care and self-soothing. How can we pacify ourselves as we go through turbulent emotions and make sure our needs are met, first and foremost?

In the meantime, we can take advantage of the Moon meeting up with Jupiter for optimistic energy later on the day of the New Moon, and then the Sun will be with Jupiter on August 1st.

From the Wild Unknown deck, I received: The Mask & Kairos

The Mask: the Persona, performance, reveal

“Meditate on your original face— the one you had before your mother and father were born.”

The Mask is definitely Leo energy! Leo is a performer and enjoys being the center of attention to shine is light. However, some people take on personas and are not in touch with their true self and instead have various fragments of who they believe they are. It’s a good time for inner-child healing work to connect with who you are and who you were before you started wearing the mask you were given to fit in.

Kairos: Mythic time, synchronicity

“The word ‘evil’ comes from the root ‘unripe’. Consider that everything has a time of ripeness. When it becomes a nourishing fruit, sweet to the lips”

Always wait for Divine Timing. Much sorrow can come when you try to force your will against the Universal timeline of things. We are, as a collective, learning how to move with the natural rhythm of life again, understanding what equilibrium really feels like. Being patient and trusting that things are always working in your favor will help you in this season.

In the meantime, stay present and prepare. Nothing that is for you will miss you.

Moon journal prompts

Use these prompts to journal with or meditate on. If you’re like me, retreating to a quiet space in your home, putting on some background music like solfeggio frequencies or my new favorite, “Faith’s Hymn” by Beautiful Chorus, and lighting a candle or incense helps calm the mind and allows you to tune in to what’s trying to get your attention. (I link my favorite playlists from Apple Music so you can tune in).

Post new Moon Reflections:

Stay tuned for post-moon reflections!

UPDATE: Monday 8/8

I hope you are all well! I don’t know about you, but there was definitely a focus on inner-child tending/healing this weekend. I had a moment of frustration because I was working on something and things just weren’t moving — that’s thanks to that Mars square Saturn energy. So, I decided I wasn’t going to keep spinning my wheels trying to move an immovable force and decided to tune my energy elsewhere. I decided to have some fun!

If you follow me on my Stories on IG, you may have saw my post showing me playing The Sims 4. As a kid, I always wanted to have The Sims games but I didn’t get it until I was an adult with my own money. It’s how I tend to my inner-child’s wanting to explore and play and imagine new spaces and worlds. I don’t play often but when I do, I’m so excited to see where things go.

Thankfully, we have a pool where we live so my family and I were able to get some sun and enjoy some time in the water. This upcoming Full Moon is going to be a bit rocky, but there’s a purpose to the madness. I’ll have a whole run-down in Thursday’s blog post.

Here’s two posts I found that I felt channeled the energy of the New Moon and leading up to the Full Moon.
